Welcome to Harveys Lake PA - the largest natural lake in the Commonwealth! |
|
| Welcome to HarveysLakePA.com the website of the people of Harveys Lake
PA. If you feel you would like to take an active role in this website please do.
There is much that can be done to make Harveys Lake a nicer place to live, visit
and enjoy life. Harveys Lake is a beautiful glacial lake surrounded by
mountains. The deepest part of the lake according to sonar is 101 ft. The lake
is quite different than it was a hundred years ago. The lore and legend of the
lake is rather colorful and very interesting. At one time Harveys Lake was one
of the most popular east coast resort areas. With steamboat launches around the
lake tourists could travel to anywhere on the lake they desired. The
campgrounds, amusement park, casino, sandy bottom beach or to visit with friends
or family in the many cottages that are still the most common structures around
the lake. Gone are those days of yesteryear and entertainment and tourists
coming in by train or trolley. Harveys Lake is now more of a private community
this century, with no public swimming access and no public transportation. Harveys Lake is the nicest
looking ghost resort you can find. Harveys Lake today offers great boating,
sailing, S.C.U.B.A. diving, jetskiing, and sunset watching. The homes around Harveys Lake are extremely
varied, from shingled summer cottages on blocks to multi-million dollar estates
and everything in between. The variety of architecture is amazing. Because of
changing times many of the summer homes are now year round residences. This
trend led to the installation of a public sanitary sewer system to protect the
lake and it's recreational value. Zoning regulations were adopted to allow for
hopefully safer and more practical future construction. Since many if not the
majority of the structures in the lake basin are cottages or are situated on
small lots with little or no setbacks from adjacent properties, the
establishment of zoning regulations made many if not most structures
non-conforming. This can be an issue when it comes time to improve, maintain or
repair properties. Stop in and ask the helpful people in the Borough Building
for a copy. The borough office can help you with necessary permits, garbage
information and borough collected fees, sewer hookup and assessment fees and
information, recycling information, necessary fire and safety code information
and permits for open burning. Carol Sampson is the borough Secretary. Rick Boice
is Mayor. Terry Jones is Tax collector. Ruth Eaton is Councilwoman. Police are
Headquartered in the Borough building. Jeff Butler is Chief of Police.
